teaching roller skating
Has anyone else tried to teach someone else how to roller skate?
I took my eldest daughter to her school night out to a roller skating rink a month or two ago. Man did I feel like a horrible teacher. I had no clue how to explain stopping, skating, or even just standing still on skates, coming from someone who plays roller hockey.
She fell so many times. I tried giving her space to figure it out on her own. I held her hands to give her some support while skating. We got a rolling station that she could hold on to while she skated.
To me it looked like she was struggling, but she wanted to keep soldiering on. I couldn't pull her off the rink! When the skate session was done she didn't want to leave.
We went out to dinner afterwords at a pizza place.
I had an absolute blast spending that one on one time with her!
Before our last kiddo was born (number 3) I would take her on daddy-daughter dates, but since then those have fallen off in frequency (it's a goal of mine to take each of my kids out for their own special night out once a month).
Well when the new year hit my eldest's class had her fill out a paper that recapped her winter break and look ahead to the new year. The square that read "Thing you are looking forward to the most in the new year" read: Go roller skating again.
My heart filled with so much joy from reading that, I can't even put it into words. 🫶❤️🫶
