Taylor's Times

perfect day achieved

Let me preface this by saying yesterday ended in kind of a slump. I finished a hockey game in which us (a winless team in 8 games thus far) lost a second game in a row in a shootout – heartbreaking. This was after we were losing with 2 minutes to go, tied it up, gave up a goal 5 seconds later, then tied it up again to bring it to overtime. I digress. On my way out to my car as I'm about to chuck my stinky ass gear in the trunk I notice my rangefinder holder on my golf bag is empty, my heart dropped. No one returns rangefinders. There goes $200 down the drain... I resolved to not think about it until the morning when the proshop of the last course I played was open.

After an easy going, productive half day at work, I call the last course I played at, which has been over two weeks ago. Lo and behold, luck and nice people were on my side, the course had it!

Prior to finding out they had my rangefinder, my grandfather and I had already agreed to play golf on this 65ºF and sunny day. After confirming with him, I booked a tee time at the same course that had my rangefinder.

With it being such a beautiful day, I challenged myself to walk. I always enjoy walking while playing golf. For one, I think I play better when I walk. It gets you in your zone. Walking slows you down, you can really think your shots through on your way to your ball. It also allows you time to reset, instead of zipping around in a golf cart from shot to shot.

On the flip side, its very easy to take the easy way out and take a cart just because your playing partner is. Well not today! If I wasn't going to walk today, when was I going to walk? Am I going to walk when its the dead heat of summer and 100º? No, I need to become a walker again while its nice out. So I followed through with my challenge.

As far as golf was concerned, I started out poorly, but grinded out a respectable score (for me). So that was another massive plus.

But the best part of it all was just getting out and enjoying a beautiful day with my grandpop. We were able to squeeze a 19th hole (aka a grapefruit crush 🍻) in before I had to hit the road and pick up the kiddos.

Sometimes its all about acknowledging the positives, challenging yourself (and following through), and spending time with the people you love.🫶
