live music
For me, I don't think there is a happier place on Earth than at a concert of your choosing. It’s an amalgamation of people coming together to listen to some of their favorite music, usually—unless your partner drags you to a show you'd rather not be at. Not me trying to drag my wife to DMB again.
Every year I try to attend a Dave Matthews Band show during their yearly summer tour. I know they’re not everyone's cup of tea, but the DMB fan base that goes to shows every year are some of the chillest out there. I went with my mom to the show this year, and halfway through the first song, as I'm looking out into the lawn crowd, I turn and say to her, "It's just really nice to see everyone smiling." When I said that, I was thinking about all the division in the world today, and how it’s just such a nice getaway for an evening.
The energy at a concert is just such an infectious feeling. Seeing this guy smile year after year after doing this for 30 years—it just makes you feel good.

Another perk of attending concerts is meeting people with similar interests and bonding for a short time. Heck, you may even become lifelong friends by the end of the show. This year I met a married couple who took a weekend getaway from their kids to go see Dave, much like myself. We had a blast belting out the lyrics and sharing many laughs.

So in the coming months, if you haven't been to a concert lately, I challenge you to look up your favorite band and see when they’re in your neck of the woods next. Whether it's with a group of friends or you venture to the show yourself and make new friends, get out there and belt out your favorite songs. Celebrate we will,
Because life is short but sweet for certain
