friendsgiving

With spooky season over, it's time to gather with your friends - in my case (as is tradition), around a piping-hot vat of oil with a massive turkey crisping up inside.

Friendsgiving is an event unlike other friend gatherings. Everyone brings a dish or two, maybe some adult beverages, and a chill vibe. There are no expectations - just time to catch up with friends, some of whom you may not have seen for months.

This year marked my group's tenth year of gathering for Friendsgiving. It was a mind-boggling realization to most of us. We originally started the tradition before any of us were married or had kids. We pooled all the photos we could find of years past. We all had a good laugh reflecting on the previous years. Now all of us are married or engaged and instead of us causing the shenanigans, we left that up to the children. This year’s gathering had 25 adults plus children — it was truly one of the more special ones we’ve had.

It is an event I would encourage everyone to start with a group of friends, if you don't already. You can plan it early enough in the years to fit around everyone's hectic schedules. Sit down and have a face to face discussion with some of those that you are closest to, over a homemade meal that everyone should have had a part in making.
